Abstract
The inheritance of resistance to Mungbean Yellow Mosaic Virus (MYMV) in green gram was studied from the crosses between a MYMV-resistant genotype, VBN 2, and two susceptible genotypes, Virudhunagar local and Madurai local. The F2 generation of the two crosses, Virudhunagar local x VBN 2 and Madurai local x VBN 2, along with the parents, were screened for MYMV resistance in natural field conditions using infector rows of MYMV-susceptible variety KPS 2. Each plant in the segregating generation of both the crosses was screened for MYMV resistance according to the MYMV score proposed by Alice and Nadarajan1. The chi-square test confirmed the segregation ratio of 3:1 susceptible: resistant plants in the F2 generation of both the crosses. This suggests that a monogenic recessive gene controls the MYMV resistance in green gram.
